EquiSense recognises and acknowledges evolving dynamics within the family unit, and how often when there is a child with additional needs in the family, the homeostasis can become imbalanced and need support. Often parents and siblings of children with additional needs could really benefit from some time out, but even better, carrying out an activity alongside their child with additional needs. This is the basis on which the Therapeutic Horsemanship Family Support service was developed. Sue, the Therapeutic Horsemanship Coach, also has experience in family support, and has developed support programs for families.
Sibling sessions
Often it is hard for siblings where one has additional needs to find a common bond. Sibling sessions accommodate the needs of both children, support communication and fun between them, and help them find something that they both enjoy doing together. These sessions can incorporate just mounted activities, or also involve working together in the stables caring for the horses.
Parent session 1:1
Time out in an environment where parents of children with additional needs are understood can be invaluable. Parent sessions are 1:1 time for the parent. This little oasis of time can be an invaluable resource to parents as they give so much of themselves on a day to day basis.
